Snuggling

I sleep with my dogs (Bruce is there too, of course!  Ha ha!).  We have a whole routine we go through each night.  As soon as the TV clicks off, they know it's time to go out so they pop up and head for the door.  They go out and do their business.  They come in and are rewarded with a treat, which they promptly dispose of.  Then they get their "weeds" - these are actually these little rawhide twists that look like joints sticking out of their mouths.  They hop up on the bed and chew those until they're gone.  Dixie nests in an extra blanket, always near the foot of the bed.  Daisy on the other hand MUST go under the blankets (even if she has to step on my hair to get there) and she MUST be in the crook of my knees, snuggling.  Most of the time, I find it cozy and adorable.  I love my pups, so I love that they want to be near us.  Last night, however, was not one of those times.  For some reason, having Daisy snuggle so close to me was almost maddening!  I would scoot away a bit, and she would move closer.  I would scoot again, and she would move.  I just wanted some space!  And she had the audacity to give me a little groan each time, as though I was annoying HER!  Arrghh!

For some reason, it reminded of James 4:8 which starts out "Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you."  So many times in my life, I have scooted away from God, thinking that I wanted space or some type of freedom.  But you know, while it might feel ok for a bit, maybe for a "night" or two, ultimately, being near to God is the sweetest place I know. There's warmth there.  There's safety there.  There's love there.  And resting in Him is such deep peace.  Ahhhh....
